Technology Business Management¶
This perspective states Alescent's posture toward Technology Business Management as a common external practice discipline.
Domain Classification¶
Technology Business Management is primarily a Practices-domain construct when it refers to repeatable methods, disciplines, transparency models, cost models, service models, governance practices, and decision protocols for managing technology in business terms.
It may also touch Platforms when the subject is the technology estate, Products when the subject is a product or service taxonomy, Partners when the subject is sourcing or vendor contribution, and Projects when the subject is technology investment execution.
Alescent Position¶
Alescent recognizes Technology Business Management as a useful discipline for improving technology-cost transparency, accountability, service economics, business alignment, benchmarking, and decision support.
Alescent's position is a "yes, and" position:
- yes, Technology Business Management provides useful structure for translating technology cost, consumption, services, products, and business units into more governable management views;
- and, Alescent's Value Realization perspective requires those views to connect to investment logic, value hypotheses, Effects, evidence, governance, and realized economic outcomes.
Relationship to IT Investment Management¶
Alescent's related practice area is IT Investment Management.
IT Investment Management may use TBM-oriented concepts, but should not be reduced to TBM. The Alescent practice should ask not only what technology costs, who consumes it, and how it is allocated, but what value is expected, what value is realized, what investment is justified, and how economic outcomes are governed.
Value Realization Extension¶
A Value Realization-based extension of TBM emphasizes:
- Investment before cost;
- realized value before chargeback optics;
- Effects before generic benefit language;
- evidence before allocation logic;
- economic optimization before budget compliance alone;
- transparency in service of decision quality, not transparency for its own sake;
- consumption, commitment, capacity, cost, capital, cashflow, compliance, and control as related economic Effects.
Preferred Use¶
Use Technology Business Management where derived content must connect Alescent's work to a familiar technology-management discipline.
Use IT Investment Management where the Alescent posture is broader than cost transparency and requires value, investment, evidence, and economic outcome governance.
Prohibited Use¶
Do not treat TBM taxonomy, tooling, allocation logic, benchmarking, or cost transparency as sufficient evidence of realized value.
Do not present Alescent as merely a TBM implementation provider unless expressly scoped.
Do not allow TBM cost language to displace the broader Investment and Value Realization framing.
